Everything about this knife is amazing. The intricate laser engraved pattern, the bearings delivering so smooth operation, and an amazingly sharp and firm blade. This knife will accompany me at all times for convenient pleasurable use. I am going to be a loyal Ocaso customer going forward. And finally the card from Vic was the final great detail in the wonderful packaging the knife arrived in.
When I saw the elegant handle, clover pattern, and the clip design I had to buy one. Coming from the much less expensive Samior folders I was excited to see the increase of quality of workmanship and blade for a higher priced work of art.
What I received is much like how Medieval swords are described. In most Medieval swords all effort and skill was put into the handle, very little into the blade. Intricate and beautiful handles but the blades may not have been even heat treated. So I find about the same idea here. The handle, clip and folding action is best I've ever seen. Beautiful, functional, and I don't hesitate to show it off in the office or at home. However the blade I have a few issues with. For the money I don't mind the S35VN but the geometry and finish need improvement. The machining work is simplistic and rough. It needs to be finished with a higher grit. The blade seems soft vs other similarly priced S35VN knives I have. My Spiderco UF stone seems to even bite in a little. I knew the spine was 1/8" inch thick when purchased but it turned out too thick. Combine the spine thickness, the short width and it's 25 degree secondary bevel - I feel like I'm using an axe when slicing food. It was not very sharp when I received it but I was able to sharpen the knife at 25 degrees and indeed it took a razor edge, but it's not the slicer I want.
What I'd like to see in the blade is a thinner spine around 1/16" with S35VN or 14C28N with a secondary bevel of 20 degrees.
Love the harpoon blade & great texture on the handle. Highly recommend. Will be buying a few more.
